Thanks Brian for posting them. The one with the Coke can is my favorite :) Would you consider selling a print to me for my scrapbook by any chance? I've never seen the 45 for Radio Silence before - that's very cool. I shall have to go hunting for one of those! I have recently come into possession of the UK 45s of Europa, Science, and Airwaves. Like a crow to shiny pennies, I was drawn to these by the cool covers on each. I know in the past I've mentioned the place where I found these goodies, but for the benefit of recent arrivals to the land of Alloy, I shall reiterate: Yesterday and Today Records in beautiful Rockville, Maryland. They have a website (http://www.members.aol.com/yatrec/private/index.htm) and e-mail: yatrec@aol.com. They do mail order - both domestic and international. The last time I was there, they had over 50 pieces of Dolby vinyl out on the racks, and, when I asked them to hold one or two items for a friend, they said, "Oh, we have three or four more of that..." Very cool. Just to give you an example (and this isn't the full list), they had: 5 pressings of I Scare Myself (including US, UK, Canadian, and Japanese) 7 of Hyperactive (including one from Spain) At least 4 of Dissidents (again, one from Spain -- what's this Dolby/Spain bond, eh?) The UK 45 of Urges/Leipzig 3 or 4 pressings of Hot Sauce, Dolby's Cube (12" and smaller), UK 45 of Windpower, Fieldwork, a bunch of Dolby-related and Dolby-produced items. This is just a hint of what's there. If you drop the folks who run this place a line with a wish list, they'll hunt it down, if they don't have it already. I just pass this on as a public service. Their prices are very reasonable -- the UK Dolby singles I got just before Christmas ran me between 4-6 dollars - in mint condition. I am always amazed by the amount and variety of Dolby tuneage they have. (Plus other musicians -- I played "Let's find one-album, no-hit bands I used to see in clubs in London in the '80's" and was really wowed by the obscure stuff they had. Very cool. I spent Christmas eve wrapped up in nostalgia in this shop.) Winter storm is fast approaching. Time to light some cheap IKEA candles and pop batteries into the radio. Here comes the snow and evil, evil freezing rain (don't know about the men in suits) and I bet the power grid will fail shortly. Until then, I'm watching Chinatown... Cheers, Melissa - -- Melissa R. So, I don't know if it's worth reprinting. Melissa, the Low Noise single wouldn't be there at all if it weren't for you--thanks again. However, you might want to take note that AOL web addresses are not prefixed with "www." :) BC - --- Brian Clayton "The main motive for going beyond the Rim... stemish@lns.com there's a heck of a big Taco Bell out there..." -- jms ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 02 Jan 1999 19:28:23 -0500 From: MacSuirtain Subject: Re: Alloy: a few pics Brian Clayton wrote: > > Melissa, the Low Noise single wouldn't be there at all if it weren't > for you--thanks again. However, you might want to take note that AOL > web addresses are not prefixed with "www." :) Oh, duh. Double duh. And a Homer "doh" thrown in for good measure. That url is actually http://members.aol.com/yatrec/private/index.htm See, I'm still a techno-ninnie! And I'm trying to figure out just what is says about me that I "ooh and aah" over the 45s more than I do over Our Fearless Leader's radiant visage. I'm just not normal, I fear. As some might say, "The girl's not right..." Haven't made it to watching Chinatown yet -- I'm caught up in watching the Sesame Street 30th Anniversary Music Special. It's really, really wonderful! But the photos, I just love them. Thomas looks so happy & so very handsome, plus he's wearing these really nice shoes that I'm jealous of, they look Italian, wish I had a pair (though of course i would need them in black) <> I'm glad you didn't go with the flash option, you are a fine person Brian! Yellowish color doesn't bother me, the images themselves are really wonderful. I'm still interested if you are.. Haven't heard a Dolby cover since Gaskin & Stewart...and this dates back to 1996, so it's been around for quite a while (not even Lazlo has it listed in his discography machine!) I wonder: is Thomas aware of every cover that other artists release? It seems that they'd have to get permission to re-record his music, yes? It would be interesting to know how many such requests come through every year...
