The templates must already exist and be available through the DEFAULT pseudo-list. If any settings conflict, templates that are higher in the list will take precedence. Collections of configuration settings can be stored for future use in files called configuration templates. For example, there exists a template called "DEFAULT:rfc2369" that allows a mailing list to be configured to add headers to posted messages which make subscribing and unsubscribing easier. To see the contents of the template, use the following command: configshow-declared DEFAULT:rfc2369 A summary of all of the DEFAULT templates can be see with the following command: lists-config DEFAULT Because templates are stored under the DEFAULT list, a site or domain administrative password is needed to create them. However, any list owner can use a template once it is created. Templates that are higher in the list have higher precedence. The overall order of precedence is as follows: the main configuration file of the mailing list templates in the config_defaults setting the main configuration file of the DEFAULT pseudo-list the installation settings In other words, the templates in this setting will override the installation defaults and the settings in the DEFAULT list. However, any changes made to the configuration of a mailing list with the configset command will override the settings in the templates. The configshow command will show which configuration file supplies the value of a setting; this feature is useful for verifying that the templates will work as planned.
