For me the 45 is both sides. I know there is a school of thought that feels the more the b-side is a throwaway the more they like it, but I could never really get into that. Take the b-side of "Overnight Sensation." "Hands on You" has its qualities, but I never really go out of my way to listen to it. I think back to when I was a kid and the singles that stick out in my mind always had b-sides I adored, and often came to like more than the A-side. (For me that would include "Daytime Nighttime Suffering" the b-side to McCartney's "Goodnight TOnight" and "Don't Try Suicide" the b-side to Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust.") ----- Original Message ----- From: toddfan@comcast.net Sent: 08/04/11 12:36 PM To: audities@smoe.org Subject: Re: if you start with the premise True...but he didn't ask for the best "A" side/"B" side....he asked for the best 45, giving the example of "Overnight Sensation" as the first tune. Altho--I DO agree with your assessment of the A/B side stuff....I practically wore out Day Tripper/We Can Work It Out I may get flak for this, but another I would add as a contender would be: Valleri, by The Monkees.....a very strong single, IMHO. Good Vibrations was phenomenal, but Let's Go Away for Awhile, while a very fine instrumental, … let me put it this way. Imagine if it had been Good Vibrations/Wouldn't It Be Nice or Good Vibrations/Heroes and Villains? Paperback Writer/Rain and We Can Work It Out/Day Tripper are other contenders.
