Gregg Swann ~ 1966-2011 http://www.greggswann.com/ Gregg Swann died February 1, 2011, at his home in the Bronx. Born on August 30, 1966, Gregg was the son of Marion and Martha Swann. The youngest of seven children, he grew up on the family farm in northeast Missouri, and, after earning a degree in economics from the University of Missouri-Columbia, he pursued a career as a musician and songwriter. From Missouri, he moved to Philadelphia, and later, New York. He lived in Greenwich Village and performed frequently, eventually competing on the nationally syndicated television program "Star Search." He was signed to a recording contract by Dalin Records and played a series of engagements in England and Europe; his songs were heard on the NBC-TV program "Homicide: Life on the Streets," and on ABC-TV's "All My Children." On July 13, 2001, he married Yvette Reyes; they lived in Riverdale, N.Y., with their son, Peter. Gregg was employed at Lazard, Inc., in Manhattan. After he was diagnosed with cancer in 2007, Gregg refused to be defined by his illness. He continued to work, write, perform and enjoy travel and visits with family and friends. The Swann family would like to thank the many caregivers, especially the doctors and nurses at Beth Israel Medical Center Cancer Center, and friends who have supported Gregg throughout his illness. Memorial visitation will be held Friday and Saturday, February 4 and 5, from 2-4 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. each day, at Riverdale-on-Hudson Funeral Home, 6110 Riverdale Avenue, Bronx, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Gregg's memory to standup2cancer.org.
