In the New issue of the New Yorker, I just read the following in their "Goings On About Town" section: On August 17, 1960, a leather-jacketed, pompadoured group from Liverpool played their first gig at the Indra club in Hamburg....Exactly fifty years later, Bambi Kino - the drummer Ira Elliott (Nada Surf), the bassist Erik Paparazzi (Cat Power), and the guitarists Doug Gillard (Guided By Voices) and Mark Rozzo (Maplewood) - will climb on that same stage and try to channel some of that magic. Judging from their first single, "Some Other Guy," produced by Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger, they've got the chops and the attitude to do it. This show, on June 29 (at Bowery Electric) is a preview. (The Bambi Kino website http://www.bambi-kino.com/info.php says it isn't Doug Gillard, but Moby band member Daron Murphy...thus, so much for the famous New Yorkers fact checking system!) That's the written come on...here's the YouTube one.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl-K9d81KMY And by the way, there seems to also be a French band by that name.
