This just in from the best letter writer in the land of music promotion. Even if you don't like the Pernice Brothers the updates always bring a smile. Especially interesting for Audities folks, several of the upcoming shows feature John Cunningham whose literate chamber pop has been cheered here, in the way back times. -craig ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: The Pernice Brothers Mailing List Date: Thu, Jan 7, 2010 at 12:23 PM Subject: [Pernice Brothers Mailing List] Pernice shows this month and candid, behind-the-music information To: pernice@ashmontrecords.com My dearest friend: Gather ‘round children and I will do my best not to give you the Pernice update you yearn for, in all of its grey-area glory, rife with indecision and insecurity, informed by family obligations, gainful employment, prescription meds, ennui and the weather. It can’t take too long, because I’m busy packing for the big tour we will embark on next week, which probably isn’t coming to your town. Yes, it’s personal, so please do take it that way. For those of you who complain about my long-windedness, I boil it down thusly: I have NO idea what’s going on, beyond the tour dates listed below. So you can stop reading. But, if you like to see the machinations – the tortured negotiations, the infighting, the numbers crunching, read on. So, there’s a record, in the can, unmixed. We have no idea when there will be time to mix it. We have no idea what it is, because it doesn’t sound like a Joe solo record, and it doesn’t sound like a Pernice Brothers record. It also doesn’t sound like a Chappaquiddick Skyline record. James and Menck, who are the loveliest of houseguests and particular favorites of Charlie Ashmont, were here with Pernice and other Pernice for a few weeks finishing up said recording, in the attic. I can detail all of the meals they ate, as I was generally sent out to fetch those, but can’t tell you much about the music, because I was unable to penetrate the fortress of testosterone. I don’t even think the Salahis could have gotten up there. It’s a drafty, creaky old house though, so I can tell you that through the floorboards and drowning out that week’s episode of Sons of Anarchy, it sounded quite good. Since we don’t know what it will be called, when the time comes that it’s fully cooked, I MIGHT try to release it under the name “Lady Gaga,” to see if we can sell 1/100th of what she sells before people figure out they were duped. If this were to work, all of us would actually get an indie rock living wage this year. How crazy would THAT be? But more on that release later, as soon as I have more info or can invent something that seems feasible. As mentioned a couple of paragraphs and a lifetime ago, we’re hitting the road. The dates are below. There will be no more in the immediate future. The US dates will feature Joe solo, reading from his book and singing/playing, much like he did last summer. It won’t be the same show though, and there will probably be more emphasis on his own songs. Opening these shows will be John Cunningham, in his east coast debut. Now, he’s a guy we can relate to, as he releases a record about once every five years, and rarely plays live. You guys are all so good at waiting for Pernice, that we encourage you to adopt him as well. Oh, and also, he’s brilliant. You won’t be sorry if you get to see him. On these east coast dates, I will tag along, reprising my signature 80’s role as “merch girl.” Please plan accordingly. I am hoping that Joe will drive, so that I can live tweet most of the proceedings. There are about 8 people on the twitter who seem to get a particular thrill out of reading the verbal abuse Joe metes out to those around him. And you know me – I’m a people pleaser! The UK and European shows will be just Joe – a man and a guitar – playing his music. He won’t be reading, because we find that the English don’t really understand the English, if you know what I’m saying. The Spanish might, but since the book hasn’t actually been released domestically over there, and it’s too heavy to carry copies to sell at shows, Joe is going to pretend it doesn’t exist. But it does in fact exist, and I’d be happy to sell you a copy at www.joepernice.com/store. I don’t care if you’re English, Spanish or Klingon. Bazinga!
