Yesterday, with no expectations at all I watched the documentary film "Dig". The movie is a 7 year journal of 2 rock bands, the Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols . I had no interest in either of these bands, but somehow this movie was riveting. The two group leaders ,Anton Newcombe [BJM] and Courtney Taylor are the main focus of the film , and how their lives intersect. The weird thing is how this film has all the trappings of a rock film. Drugs, band arguments, tours etc. But the fact that it is real is captivating. The instability of Anton is a big part of the movie.. If played by an actor we would be raving about his performance. But he is real and quite scary. The scene where his band is playing the Viper Room for a record deal is unreal. Both groups play enough cool tunes to keep your interest in them. I won't be rushing out to buy their albums , but in the movie the music works. I actually enjoyed many of the live footage. Anyone who enjoys rock films should check this one out. The rush of being in a band , and the sad disintegrating after affects make this a compelling film. Just to see Anton is worth the time. He is truly a frightening dude. I don't think anything is going on with either of these groups now. http://www.amazon.com/DiG-Anton-Newcombe/dp/B0007IO740/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1255113331&sr=1-1 Gene _________________________________________________________________ Your E-mail and More On-the-Go.
