If the option to buy vinyl is there I'll get it. The new Cheap Trick, for example. It's 20 bucks, (as is the 8-track... those kitschy, Rockford boys.), and that's about all I'll pay for a single LP if it's really special. For ex: Just picked up the latest vinyl re-issue of The Beach Boys "Sunflower ", and unlike alot of the vinyl re-issues I've purchased this one actually sounds better than the 2-few CD with "Surf's Up" that came out a couple years ago. It may be old stock- not sure, but the quality of sound is superb. All the brittle sounds from the CD are warmed up smoothed out. What a great experience to hear that album in it's intended media form while wearing headphones. The original LP liner notes were left off the CD, but they talk about stereo sounds in the studio being recorded "in stereo", not just mono tracks moved around the stereo field. Standard fare now, but their use of the sounds on that record were pretty well conceived to match each tune. Great record! Literally. later, joe
