"I've Never Been to Me" by Charlene -- The entire song is an abomination...form "Hey Lady..." to "...the subtle whoring." Thematically, musically...grotesquely sentimental and quasi-conservative to boot. Remarkably, this spent a week at #1. I particularly wish to point out the line: " I've been to Nice and the isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht..." No Greek island in particular mind you, but just one that happened to rhyme with "Nice." Please also note the shameless rhyming of "Georgia" and "California." At least Steve Miller rhymed "Phoenix, Arizona" and "Tacoma." Entire song follows if you dare... ---------------------------------------------------------------- Hey lady, you lady, cursing at your life You're a discontented mother and a regimented wife I've no doubt you dream about the things you'll never do But, I wish someone had talked to me Like I wanna talk to you..... Oh, I've been to Georgia and California and anywhere I could run I took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free I've been to paradise but I've never been to me Please lady, please lady, don't just walk away 'Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today I can see so much of me still living in your eyes Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived million lies.... Oh, I've been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht I've moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me [spoken] Hey, you know what paradise is? It's a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be But you know what truth is? It's that little baby you're holding, it's that man you fought with this morning The same one you're going to make love with tonight That's truth, that's love...... Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children that might have made me complete But I took the sweet life, I never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free Hey lady...... I've been to paradise, (I've been to paradise) But I've never been to me (I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run) I've been to paradise, never been to me (I've been to Neice and the isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht) I've been to paradise, never been to me (I've been to cryin' for unborn children that might have made me complete) I've been to paradise, never been to me (I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run) I've been to paradise, never been to me -----Original Message----- From: audities-owner@smoe.org [mailto:audities-owner@smoe.org] On Behalf Of rickbilous Sent: Monday, October 06, 2008 2:57 PM To: audities@smoe.org Subject: Re: Most Annoying Song Ever Wow, I agree - this song causes the vomit to rise immediately, and increased exposure tends to make me act in an irrational manner - even when I was a young teenager, I always thought these were incredibly stupid lyrics. I also like the part later on where she emotes "the one thing he couldn't give me, is the one single thing that you cannnnnnn!" How could someone really write something so bad, and it can be a hit? couldn't anyone of us here write a song at least twice as good, (or half as bad?) --- In audities@yahoogroups.com, "Jeff" wrote: > > Ladies and Gentlemen, I offer you this as the most annoying song ever: > > Heart's "All I Want To Do is Make Love To You" > > So we found this hotel, > It was a place I knew well > We made magic that night. > Oh, he did everything right > He brought the woman out of me, > So many times, easily > And in the morning when he woke all > I left him was a note > I told him > I am the flower you are the seed > We walked in the garden > We planted a tree > Dont try to find me, > Please dont you dare > Just live in my memory, > Youll always be there > > > Is this not the very definition of INSIPID? > > jeff teez >
