I don't disagree. I was saying 'one could make an argument' they could place up there. Much as I love the band, not sure I could! There were not a lot of bands in the mainstream making music like this in the early 70s - so the ones that were there(at least on major labels), had influence on fans who were into post-Beatle pop/rock. That's another thread, though - a list of the Top 25 most influential power pop artists. I'll throw depth charge out, tho. My putting out the Jellyfish box set back in 2002, I can tell you with all kinds of anecdotes and stories how much I UNDER-estimated the bands' influence. And *I* freaking mortgaged my house to get that bugger out back then and I really did not have an idea of their impact on so many, many thousands of music fans. I have hundreds of emails from fans that I saved - the passion was unbridled, for sure - but it was clear how incredibly impactfull the band was on almost anyone who saw them live and the experience folks had w/ listening to their records was well beyond the band just being a casual favorite for so m any fans. Before 2002, I would place Jellyfish, say,Top 20 or 25, if I was inclined to ponder a list. After my experiences the last five years w/ fans from releasing "Fan Club", I would put them easily in the top 10 as the amount of bands and musicians inspired by their (limited) work is immense and influence substantial. (btw, there are a few handfuls of the original discs (not the box sets) that I found a few weeks ago and put up on the site - email me off list if yr interested or just search jellyfish on the not lame site - but do so in next day or two) Bruce @ Not Lame > From: > Reply-To: > Date: Thu, 12 Jun 2008 00:02:04 -0400 > To: > Subject: audities-digest V5 #1004 (15 msgs) > > Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2008 22:43:06 -0400 > From: "Stewart Mason" > To: > Subject: Re: Blue Ash Vs.
