OK - I'm starting to take this personally! I moved to Austin almost 3 years ago and NOW - The Brewers are winning; The Pabst, Turner Hall, & The Riverside are pulling in some great touring acts; AND IPO is coming to the bar ACROSS THE STREET from where I lived. Actually, this is awesome. Linneman's is one of the coolest bars in Milwaukee. Jim & Marty (the owners) are really friendly and care about music - Unfortunately, a rarity among most club owners. I don't know all of the bands playing, but these are definitely worth checking out: Trolley - Always an energetic & entertaining live show http://www.myspace.com/trolley1 The Pugilists - Country-Pop from Jack Rodee of Spill & Jack Rice formerly of The Blow Pops & The Lackloves http://www.myspace.com/pugilists Spill - You should know them from "Midwestern Jinx" on the IPO Comps The Pulltops http://www.myspace.com/thepulltops Fun With Atoms http://www.myspace.com/funwithatoms The Nice Outfit - Slighty harder-edged spinoff of Trolley http://www.myspace.com/niceoutfit The Lackloves - Ex-Blow Pop Mike Jarvis - Just dropped the excellent "Cathedral Square Park" on Rainbow Quartz (If you're visiting Milwaukee, check out the park that the CD was named after) http://www.myspace.com/thelackloves Heathrow - Excellent midwest adaptation of Brit-Pop http://www.myspace.com/heathrowmusic Van Go - I'm guessing that this is the band from Chicago http://www.myspace.com/vangoissweet Nick Pipitone - Ex-Sugarsmack among others - You may remember his excellent "MUSIC FOR MINIVANS" a few years back. Milwaukeeans mostly remember him as the guy who did the music for the Children's Hospital commercial. http://www.myspace.com/nickpipitone White-Hot Tizzies - Ex-Plasticland drummer Rob McCuen gets his ya-yas out Iggy-Style - A great way to cap the fest with a bang. http://www.myspace.com/whitehottizziesmusic I'm sure that the majority of the other bands are up to a similar calibre...They may have formed after I moved or they may be from the many cities that are within a short drive (unlike the 6 hours it takes to get anywhere from Austin...but you wouldn't really want to go outside of Austin anyway). Too bad David couldn't score a cool reunion for this year. I think The Robbs & The Wigs have long left town, but Yipes is still mostly there (or any of Pat McCurdy's pre-solo/comedy bands - Men About Town, Confidentials, ...). Plasticland or Liquid Pink would've been prime for this. Shivvers released a "history of" CD last year and might've jumped at this. Feet Of Clay members are probably still knocking around Milwaukee. ...and Quinn Sharber has an excellent new disc on Bus Stop - I can't imagine why he's not playing ( http://www.myspace.com/quinnscharber ). Hell, Ric Menck's mom lives in Milwaukee! Shivver http://www.myspace.com/shivversband Pat McCurdy http://www.myspace.com/heypaddy Pat's Free Song of The Week (with songs from his "real" bands - read: pre-comedy act) http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewPodcast?id=254626765 Hope y'all have a grand ole time without me. I'll be in Houston watching The Brewers kick the Astros' turf.
