I like everything on that list I know ... and will now investigate the
ones I don't. (Because I like the ones I know),

For me that's the purpose of the lists.  It's an easy in to a persons
taste ... and if it matches, maybe I should check out the ones I'm
unfamiliar with.

Sometimes a well written review ends up disappointing because you
don't know where the person is coming from.  In magazines that I
follow, I get to know the writers and have an idea if their taste is
the same.  The list help accelerate that comfort level when learning
about new things.  So therefore, I like them, for that reason.
