While killing time this morning at my local used CD shop/tuxedo rental center (yes!) I ran across a bootleg CD-R titled MIKE CHAPMAN'S DEMOS FOR THE SWEET. The rudimentary, typo-laden packaging says the 18 tracks were taken from Chapman's original acetates, and the sound is pretty good. Most demos are fully-fleshed out instrumentally, only a few with just guitar and voice. Four of the tracks were never recorded by the Sweet. I'm not a real fan of the band (or Chapman, for that matter) but I was mildly interested to note that the demo for "Ballroom Blitz" already had the "Are you ready, Steve?" intro (and it sounds even swishier here.) Anyway, my curiosity is satisfied after one listen. The disc is obviously not legit, so I'm not going to flip it on eBay. If anyone wants it, contact me off list.
