I will cop to really digging the Wilson Pickett take on "Silver Bells." They cop the horn riff from "634-5789," the track bounces along such that it's impossible not to be happy hearing it, plus he lets loose some of his blood-curdling "aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh"s as in "Land of 10,000 Dances." Ring-a-ling. GOOD God, y'all. -----Original Message----- From: audities-owner@smoe.org [mailto:audities-owner@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Stewart Mason Sent: Friday, December 21, 2007 1:48 PM To: audities@smoe.org Subject: Re: No thanks for Christmas ----- Original Message ----- From: "Drew MacDonald" > Which suggested a Scroogian thread: what are your LEAST favorite > holiday pop > songs? Ain't none of 'em I get particularly excited about, frankly. One of the local oldies stations in Boston switches to Christmas music 24/7 every year, and by the first weekend in December, I'm usually sick of all of them. I admit to a certain perverse fondness for McCartney's "Wonderful Christmastime" simply because the synth sounds are so deeply odd, especially for what's clearly meant to be a holiday favorite for all ages. I dread the second hearing of it every year, though. But I think my least fave would have to be the Bing Crosby/David Bowie duet: near-death child-beater and coked-out sleepwalker...yeah, nothing says "Merry Christmas" like that. And of course, thanks to Preznit Daddy Issues and Lord Cheney of the War Profiteers, the Pretenders' "2000 Miles" gets harder to listen to every year. Give me Maddy Prior and the Carnival Band every time. S
