I'll add my recommendation for The Tripwires. As Bill said, it's the new band fronted by John Ramberg from the Model Rockets (also the lead guitar player for The Minus 5). The guy's a brilliant songwriter, and this new record is my favorite pop CD of the year. You can list at paisleypop.com. If you do, check out Monumanrt, Big Electric Light, and Hear This Music for starters. For those us the Northwest, The Tripwires will be doing a CD release show tonight (Friday) att he Tractor Tavern in Seattle with a rare headlining show by the Yopung Fresh Fellows. Those guys never play anymore, so now each show feels liek an event. Then they'll be in Portland on Saturday nifght at Towne Lounge with The Minus 5. The Tripwires won't be able to tour much, but you should see them if you get a chance. Their live show is a blend of their own great pop with a slew of Nuggets-esque covers. At the last show I saw, they played a couple of sets and did a bunch of covers by bands that included The Reigning Sound (Time Bomb High School), Los Shakers (Break It All), The Hi-Risers (One Note Joe), The Beatles (One After 909), The Scientists (Last Night), Dave Edmunds (Crawling Through the Wreckage), The Oblivians (Mary Lou), and Ray Columbus (She's a Mod). That reminded me of these two great old vids: She's a Mod: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU8KUucwQJY Break it All: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tE_FM7SHRE Jim
