We've always owned the masters ourselves, but they spent the longest 
time just stuck in a trunk doing nothing.

What happened was, a couple of years ago, we decided it would be fun to 
re-do the whole lot using up to date recording technology, just to see 
what we might have done differently if we'd had today's studio goodies 
available in the '70s. All the original stuff was recorded either 8 or 
16 track analogue, with analogue keyboards.

(FWIW, the three songs we all like the best were done on 8 track in 
Pathway Studios in London, where the clients the previous week had 
included John Cleese and assorted Pythons and Nick Lowe and Dave 
Edmunds. Pathway was busy in  '76/'77 becoming a favourite with Elvis 
Costello, Wreckless Eric, most of the other the Stiff label acts and 
Squeeze. It was small and scruffy and sounded great and we loved the 
place.)

Anyway, we had some interest in the new project from Delerium, based on 
the fact that Phil Thornton, our keyboard player, has worked with them 
before. During the process of recording, we sent a rough mix of the new 
tracks to Delerium to listen to - there were no vocals on them yet, so 
we sent the old 70s stuff along with it, just so they could hear the 
songs in context with vocals.

The upshot was that Richard Allen at Delerium decided he really liked 
the original '76/'77 stuff and wanted to release it via his Lightning 
Tree label. He's doing a series of prog and psychedelic releases on 
Lightning Tree and thought it would sit well with the rest of the 
catalogue (www.lightning-tree.com) and the Freak Emporium set up..

A couple of CDs that he's put out in this series in the past year have 
been The Picadilly Line's "The Huge World of Emily Small" - which I'm 
sure has been mentioned here on Audities before - and "Love and Poetry" 
by Andwella's Dream. I blagged these two when he sent them as samples 
of what he was proposing, and very nice packages they are too, IMO. 
Nice eight page sleeves with extensive liner notes and cool 
pictures...so we're extremely happy to be part of this particular 
project.

I have to agree, it is awesome to have it released after all this time.
