Thanks for mentioning Patti Smith. Definitely agree here. Several years
ago I picked up the boxset with remastered versions of her first 5 CDs
plus a boxset only Best Of. I just transferred the best of to mp3 and
sold the boxset.

There is a long list of artists that I've tried to appreciate.  But for
every Siouxsie and the Banshees who I finally get, there are many more
who never succeed in charming me.  Recent entries in this category
include Sufjan Stevens (I'll probably give Illinois two more spins
before selling it), The Decemberists (some songs are all right, but the
hooks I keep hearing about must not come with the two discs that I own),
Metric, and Fiery Furnaces (having a lot of ideas isn't the same as
knowing what to do with them).  There are plenty of artists from the
past -- Patti Smith comes to mind immediately.  I'm indifferent about
Nick Cave.  Oh -- Magnetic Fields is another one.
