Just got back from seeing a reunion tour show by the reformed Payola$. I had missed them at the IPO Vancouver gig last year, but now they're out promoting a new EMI Canada EP called 'Langford'. Gotta say, the new tunes "Bomb", "Goodbye Rock n' Roll", "Revolution" and "Phone Hell (Tell 'Em I'm Coming)" held up quite well against their classics like 'Soldier', "China Boys", "Romance", "I'll Find Another", "Where Is This Love", and the ubiquitous "Eyes Of A Stranger". Paul Hyde's singing better than he did on the Bullseye/BongoBeat 'Grand Song Caravan' in 2002; and it was a thrill to see Bob Rock (yes, THAT Bob Rock) back behind the axe and smiling his ass off (the boy can sing TOO!).
