I can assure you that Rockford was not a Big Star hotspot.  And remember 
that pre CT, Nielsen had already put in a fair amount of time slogging 
around as Fuse and Sick Man of Europe (not to mention the Nazz aborted 
reunion attempt)...so in that sense he was a contemporary of Big Star, and 
not really a follower.

I really don't hear Big Star in Cheap Trick.  Now the Move....that's another 
story.

I came to Big Star in the late 70's via the 2fer LP import reissue.  In the 
midst of the punk revolution, at the time it sounded a bit "dated" to me.  
Took me several years to really get it, but I love them now.  That big old 
double gatefold sleeve really came in handy at the time though....really 
high gloss and the seeds and stems just slid down to the fold.....
