Great question, Sam. So far, I've seen some good responses, but since I don't have a particular stake in Queen, REM, and Cheap Trick (man, that was a particularly bad hits collection!), I'll suggest solo John Lennon. To tie this back to an earlier thread, it's not like Lennon had a sterling solo career, but that Shaved Fish collection that was part of the starter solo Beatles kit for any teenager in the '70s was loaded with turds. The greatest hits albums that followed his death were better, but none of them sufficiently gathers the man's best solo works.
