Actually, that's incorrect. The Gold/Gouldmann Wax preceded the punk band Wax (with my friend Dave Georgeff a/k/a Birdie Cutlass on bass). The Wax U.K.'s debut came out in 1986. At that point, the punk Wax hadn't even formed (I know -- I was working with Dave at Sound Warehouse - the band formed a few years later in L.A.). So there was some other band named Wax that predated Wax U.K. Mike Bennett Blog: http://blog.myspace.com/mrhonorama Record reviews and more at http://fufkin.com Find out about Chicago shows: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/chicagopopshowreport/ >From: "Stewart Mason" >Reply-To: audities@smoe.org >To: >Subject: Re: same band name problem >Date: Thu, 15 Feb 2007 17:05:10 -0500 > > >----- Original Message ----- From: >>This doesn't answer the question, but I am reminded that Wax, Andrew Gold >>and Graham Gouldman's group, had to be renamed Wax UK in the U.S. because >>somebody had the Wax name. > >Specifically, a alt-rock one-hit wonder band remembered only -- even at the >time -- for the exceptionally cool-ass Spike Jonze video for their one >minor hit: > >http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V40WQtN4KVo > >S > _________________________________________________________________ Laugh, share and connect with Windows Live Messenger http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwme0020000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://imagine-msn.com/messenger/launch80/default.aspx?locale=en-us&source=hmtagline
