Saw mentioned here that in 91 they toured together. I wonder if the young Posies picked up some bad habits from the Mats. In 2000 (I believe) I saw the Posies at the Bowery Ballroom in Manhattan, and for the first six songs or so they were magnificent. All were big tracks you know and love (Solar Sister, Dream All Day, etc. Suddenly Mary, in particular, was incredible). But then they proceeded to get more and more wasted, doing tequila shots on stage (they claimed it was tequila). John A continuously sprayed spit into the crowd and when on a few storytelling tangents and rants. One involved a dwarf, a glass table and cocaine...I kid you not. Needless to say, the music didn't fare too well (although it was better than you might think). By the end of the set, both Auer and Ken S, on separate occassions mind you, had fallen backwards into the drums (cymbals flying everywhere, etc.) After the show I was actually saying how 'they were great, loose and fun like the vintage Replacements!' My then girlfriend, now my wife, who is much smarter than I, simply said, 'those unprofessional assholes. We got ripped off!' I guess it's how you look at it. I've only seen the Posies that one time. Did I witness a fluke, one off appearance, or was that a routine show? I'd see them again, either way.
