Just had to pop in to say that, while essentially a guilty pleasure itself, for me, karaoke has given a new lease to a host of guilty-pleasure type songs (think "Careless Whisper," Boston's "Long Time", and the entire oeuvre of The Little River Band) whose very bombast and bathos make them a sheer joy to belt out (with the gleefully given aid of a barful of drunken, tuneless yayhoos.) And while I agree with Stewart that there should probably be no guilt, I think the guilt in guilty pleasures to me is not in love of the song, but in acknowledging that an otherwise disdainfully dismissed songster has craftily created something that burrowed deeply past the sentinals I posted at the gates of my better judgement - in a word, I am outfoxed. Then again, if the foundations of my better judgement were built in a youth during which my favorite song for an entire year was "Perhaps Love," a sap-strewn duet between Placido Domingo and John Denver, for god's sake, how could it be expected to withstand any onslaught now? respectfully, --kelly --- Hersh Forman wrote: > And Styx....even the Denis De Young stuff! > > "Babe I'm leavin'...." > > > ----- Original Message ---- > From: Jaimie Vernon > To: audities@smoe.org > Sent: Saturday, February 3, 2007 2:44:05 PM > Subject: Re: Guilty Pleasures > > > At Date: Sat, 3 Feb 2007 11:54:44 Lawrence wrote: > > >Yup.
