Yes, he did, Jaimie - heard him say so in an interview found on one of those 
"Classic albums" DVDs of Joshua Tree... harmonics & all that... listen to 
"Regatta De Blanc" - the song (1978) and then listen to the instrumental 
break in "I Will Follow" (1980)... it all makes sense...
