I don't understand what distinction you think you're making here. 
Which artists on my best of 2006 lists do I think would enrich the 
lives of millions if they would but hear them? Er, that would be...all 
of them. Which ones do I hope have long and fruitful careers that are 
both artistically and financially satisfying? Well, again, that would 
be all of them. Indeed, some of the artists on my list are well on 
their way: one has been idolized by a devoted audience since the 
mid-'60s, one has enjoyed the comfort of a major-label deal for over 
two decades, one has been beloved by geeky record store clerks the 
world over since the late '80s, one is the biggest band ever to come 
out of Scarborough, and my #1 act of 2006 scored three UK chart hits 
that year. I believe all of those count as "hitting the target." As 
for the rest, I hope they continue to work for as long as it's fun for 
them and not a day longer, and if they don't break through to the 
world's consciousness, then that's too bad for the world but not the 
artist's problem.
