Speaking for myself, I don't feel a need to sample (and consider buying) everything that came out. So obviously the records I list as faves are a subset of the limited number of records I actually acquired or otherwise spent sufficient time with to evaluate. And I'm buying a lot fewer new releases without trial. On the other hand, a lot of records that will end up on the Audities '06 list, I did buy and didn't love; Midlake comes immediately to mind. Also, consider the impact of marketing (no, really.) Many of us here are customers of Not Lame (self included), for example, and I note that their super-featured releases-- e.g. Roger Manning, LEO-- tend to make a lot of lists. These records were wisely marketed with a heavy trial component-- come to the site, listen in hi-fidelity all the way through, and then see if you want to buy. Making a great record is part of the battle; getting it heard is another part. Not Lame manages to get their records heard by the folks who are most likely to buy. (I'm using NL as an example; don't mean to single them out.) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sam Smith" To: Sent: Friday, January 05, 2007 1:25 PM Subject: Re: How can (X) possibly not be on their list? > Michael Curry wrote: > > Sam, > > You must have read my mind.
