Before Gowan joined Styx and prior to his successful '80s run as a solo 
artist he was in a prog band called Rhinegold who performed exceptional 
cover versions of Supertramp, Queen, Styx, Genesis and Beatle songs. But 
they did have a large repertoire of original tunes based on a 
living-breathing comic-book stage show. Gowan dressed as Spiderman, the 
drummer as Superman, the guitarist as Captain America and the bass player as 
Dick Tracy. Their two centre-piece songs were "Comic Strip Boogie" and a 
tune called "Madame Malibar" dedicated to the woman in Toronto who was the 
costumer for many 1930's and 1940's Hollywood serials like 'Flash Gordon' 
and "Superman". Malibar also designed the customs the band wore.
