>>Watching the birth of my son was pretty much the most moving experience of >>my life. Sadly I was too nervous to put any music on - but if I had then >>i'd have no doubt have missed it all as I would have been upstairs still to >>trying to pick the right songs. > >Our daughter wasn't born to music, but being an invitro baby, she was, at >least, IMPLANTED to music...Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits, as it happens. >It was the least of the evils at the clinic, the other options ranging from >Manheim Steamroller to Shania Twain, but all being relatively mainstream or >easy listening. I like to think "Don't Stop" was playing... My 22-month old was born, quite amazingly enough, just as the mix CD I'd made was coming to a close with the Finn Brothers' "Gentle Hum." It couldn't have been more perfect - not only because the opening lyric is "This bird has to sing," (cue Toby's first cry) but my wife is a Neil Finn obsessive while I'm a Jon Brion obsessive, and Jon Brion lent his arsenal of unique sounds and textures to the production. The song really does sound like the best of Neil and the best of Jon. And the song will forever have incredible resonance for us. Christopher
