I echo Mike's sentiments. I thought Big Star was excellent and everything I wanted that night. But Frisbie's set was equally as enjoyable as I hadn't ever heard of them either and was blown away by them. There's a nice live set from Frisbie at eMusic. I was fortunate enough to grab one of the Big Star/Frisbie posters off the wall and had everyone in Big Star sign for me. The same poster is featured in John Cusack's apartment in High Fidelity. My last Frisbie mention is for all those on the list with young kids and watch the Noggin channel. Liam Davis (1/2 of Frisbie) is producing and playing with Justin Roberts, who is a great Chicago children's singer/songwriter. Liam appears in all the Justin videos that Noggin plays throughout the day. -----Original Message----- From: audities-owner@smoe.org [mailto:audities-owner@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Michael Bennett Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2006 7:42 AM To: audities@smoe.org Subject: Re: openers > closers Greg -- I probably should have added that Big Star was, IMO, pretty good. Maybe the effect for me was akin to DL Byron and The Boomtown Rats for you -- getting so knocked out on my heels by a total unknown. Two other things -- 1. I think we've had this debate before (or me and others), but some may like 'always mercurial,' it means little to me. Chilton was fairly engaged, but he was the weak link out of the four guys on stage, and, 2. while I love the best of Big Star, I just don't love them the way most do. It was a swell show on both ends. But I thought Frisbie raised the roof that night.
