So far, the weather has cooperated at IPO--LA. I'll take the low 80s over 
triple digits anytime!

Last Friday's show was at the Alterknit Lounge of the Knitting Factory, not 
far from the Hollywood and Highland entertainment complex. I made the 
mistake of taking Highland Ave. and ran into a Hollywood Bowl crowd arriving 
en masse to see The Sound of Music. Maria was going to have to solve her own 
problem tonight...Lonely Goatherd? Perhaps he clicked on My Space and got 
lucky.

ANNETTE SUMMERSETT turned in an impressive acoustic set.  THE MELLO CADS 
continue to worship at the alter of Burt, a preoccupation that provided 
winning results when  lead singer David Ponak turned in an spellbinding 
rendition of Bacharach/David's "Alfie."  A dream mondo lounge doubleheader 
would be having the Mello Cads share a bill with Jose Sinatra and the Troy 
Dante Inferno.

I believed the evening's most impressive set belonged to the PAULA KELLEY 
ORCHESTRA. Recently returned from the East Coast, Paula visited some songs 
out of the past and some new material from her latest CD, Some Sucker's Life 
(Pt. 1).

I promise to go into greater depth....as soon as I get myself out of the
