I hope I'm not putting words in Gary's mouth but as I remember the thread
Gary had consulted with the principals on the LALA project and concluded
he didn't like the way they conducted either themselves or their business.
I don't think it's the business model but this specific instance with
these people.
I apologize if my interpretation is incorrect.

This sort of thing has finally soured me on Silicon Valley, where I've earned
my living since 1978. This used to be a fun place to work, blah, blah, blah.....
but the selfishness, arrogance & workaholism have reached new extremes.
