>From: "floatingunder" >Reply-To: audities@smoe.org >To: audities@smoe.org > I remember the moment of hearing "Killer Queen" on the radio and >just going nuts for it. Then rushing out and buying the album. Loved >it. Eventually, I bought the two before it. I liked them quite but >they never grabbed me to the same degree ... Then prior to getting a chance to buy "A night at the Opera", hearing Bohemian Rhapsody on my car radio...I >was totally blown away by it ... > But anyway, back to the topic at hand...I really dug "A Day at the >Races" but not quite to the same degree as I had the prior two. Then >with "News of the World" I was really starting to drift away from >them. I like some songs but never to the same degree. The hits being >overplayed on this album started to grate, for me. I stopped buying >Queen. The hits I heard on follow up albums didn't grab me much and >sometimes annoyed me. Plus my ears and focus were turning to Punk and >New Wave. So, I never bought beyond "NOTW". Amazing, this story is EXACTLY the same as my experience with Queen - except that I like Queen 1 and 2 as much as 4 and 5, despite the witch/ogre lyrics that populate #2. But certainly in my book Sheer Heart Attack is the zenith, one of my favorite albums of all time. Never paid much attention after #6, which was a let down to me. They played the anthems to death when they first came out, and I still hear them too often. Fond memory: me and my 13 yr old buddy had seats about 10 rows back center at the Stanley Theater for Queen at the start of their Night at the Opera tour, and of course they played about everything from both NATO and SHA. It was sheer heaven.
