I dunno about that.  I'm the furthest thing from a serious metal geek 
and I would *never* call AC/DC a metal band.  They are, as Gene said, 
a hard rock band.  It's a subtle distinction, and not one that I would 
care enough about to defend at length, but I don't even think they're 
on the metal/hard rock border.
