I'm pretty sure that they were on the Flintstones. Could be wrong. I think the confusion with the Jetsons is that they looked very futuristic and their bodies or outfits sort of had a Michelin-man tire thing going on. Pretty fuzzy memory, but I think I could sing their theme song if you held a gun to my head. And didn't Nesmith write 'Different Drum'? That song alone cements his pop-writing legacy, in my less than humble opinion.
