In this particular instance copyright reverts, after 50 years, to the 
original writers as long as they are alive. Songs don't go into public 
domain until 25 years following the death of both writers.

In the case of Lennon & McCartney, some think that Lennon's share may go to 
McCartney as well because next of kin (i.e. Yoko) do not automatically gain 
the rights....it'll depend on that original contract signed with Dick James 
back in 1962/1963.
