Yes, drunkeness can ruin a show. I remember seeing The Posies (a Jon and Ken acoustic set)at the Monsters of Pop fest in Nashville. They passed a bottle of tequila (I think) back and forth, though they were well lubricated as the set started. It was just like Sherman described, intermittent pleasure with lots of crap.
