> > And I bet she could sing better than that guy from The Decemberists. > > John B. I remember at the record store I used to hang out in in Ottawa - Shake records - the guy tried to interest me in a sample from Orka records. Fellow Travellers, Ricky Barnes, etc. Some 'challenging' country vocal styles - the first time he played it the hair on my arms actually stood up if fear. But he continued to put it on everytime I came in the store - not ever mentioning it - and the fifth time or so, I knew the songs so well I went up and asked what it was 'cuz I 'gotta have it!'. He laughed and explained that he'd been playing with my mind for the last month. 15 years later those early Okra cds are all time favorites. Long way to say that circumstances play a huge part for me in latching on to something new - so I gotta watch how I critique stuff I don't think I like - cuz 5 yers from now it might be a desert island disc and I'll be eating my words. And some of my tops 20's from years past might be in a box in the closet. -- Lee Elliott
