It's kinda fuzzy, but I seem to recall my first favorite song either  being 
one by Michael Carpenter, or something that was recommended by Maria  Marolda, 
Henrietta Heyman, Suzy Stringfellow or Charlene Chilton.
 
In any event, you can bet your ass it was an indie release.
