I think my fave Elvis soundtracks would be, say,  GI Blues and King  
Creole. I remember how pleased I was to figure out that "Tonight is  
so right for Love" from GI Blues used the melody from Offenbach's  
Barcarolle (from Les Contes d'Hoffman). It dawned on my while  
watching Mr and Mrs Bridge, in a scene when Mrs Bridge is visiting  
the Louvres. The classical/traditional borrowings for Elvis songs  
were always fun: there was Surrender, It's now or never, Can't help  
falling in love...

Well, definitely. I just had to dig it out of a pile in the closet  
downstairs, and I'm now listening to it. I'm surprised at the good  
shape I kept my vinyl in, considering how crappy the old turntable  
was when I was a kid.

Sometimes it's best to leave these fantasies in our heads, where  
they're perfect! It's like a song you remember but haven't heard in a  
long, long time. When you do hear it, it rarely lives up to the  
fantasy. But you're right, HWYLTB and Richman sounds like a perfect  
match.

That specific song is just playing now...man, love those drums and  
the instrumentation. Guess my sound equipment is a few notches above  
the old one, because I'm hearing a lot of detail I never knew existed.

Yeah...the phrasing is exquisite. That's what a lot of people don't  
get about Elvis...sure, he didn't really write much, and his myth is  
so overwhelmingly larger than life, but his way with a melody was a  
rare and precious gift. Learned everything I know about singing from El.
