Just to back up Mark on a few of his recommendations -- The Hold Steady is my fave disc of the year, and Mr. Tate is right about singer Craig Finn -- if you don't like him, it ain't gonna work for you. The Quarter After -- again, Mark's spot on -- I'd add two other comparisons (on some songs) -- the first Waxwings album and on a couple of the longer tunes, Eleventh Dream Day. I saw a review that mentioned Quicksilver Messenger Service, and that might work too. I haven't heard the new Oranges Band, but their earlier stuff is quite good.
