Still, it fits the song, and that's what's important. Not to get on my Mike Keneally soapbox again, but Keneally is one of those musicians capable of playing flawlessly -- you don't play in Frank Zappa or Steve Vai's band if you can't -- but on his own albums there's a wonderful raggedness and spontaneity in his guitar solos that simply slays me. So uniquely him. It's so obvious that the man is going for the soul of the solo, rather than some perfectly executed passage. I have no clue why I felt compelled to write this.
