In the case of Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs' use of "Stuck In The Middle With You"....the opposite was true. Tarantino managed to take a respectable innocuous song represent a horrific act. The emotional response is still to those visuals. The song however, has now become Pavlovian in its association when you hear it outside of the context of the film. It never became part of the narrative nor does it illicit an emotional response -- just two juxtaposing and highly unmix-y things forever linked by the brilliance of same.
