Just clearing up my mail and ran across this... nice to see people adding more to their play lists... I was always intrigued, but never heard them. I finally saw Tom Rapp in London, at Terrastock, and was knocked out... I now have a lot of their stuff. >2) Scott Walker/Walker Brothers > Those two singles Make It Easy and Sun Ain't Gonna Shine were faves of mine, so I had them all along. I do remember all those albums and solo albums always being in the bins but I only got the US release. I've since picked up a few odds and ends.. >3) Beach Boys (OK, I had Pet Sounds but doubt I would ever have gone further >without the gentle nudge I needed) > Say No More! You need them all. >4) Honeybus >5) Nirvana "UK" >6) Buck Owens (yes, I accepted his genius via this list) > I always sort of liked Buck, and now I see I have a huge stack of singles and a lot of albums, including three Buckaroos... >7) Lee Hazlewood > I guess I knew his productions, but never connected the dots. I can't say I'm totally charmed by his sounds, but I do find it ok... >8) Doleful Lions >9) Harpers Bazaar > The first gig I went to was Beach Boys, Brummels, Raiders and Tikis.. The Tikis morphed into Harpers Bizaar when the added Jon Peterson from the Brummels on drums. The Tikis deal was they wore suits with short pants (suppose to be surf baggies). >10) Kinks (naturally I knew of them but doubt I would have explored very >deeply) > See Beach Boys >11) Bee Gees (ditto to Kinks message) > I managed to colleced all they albums over the years. I think my hi school g/f had the first album, so I heard it a lot. There are some great non lp b-sides, so be sure to check any early singles you see. >12) Curt Boetcher > I just found a poster for the Who and Millenium from a 1968 gig in San Jose I didn't go to! I have a lot of his stuff including the Greenbriars. I actually just listened to his solo album this week, but I can't say I was floored. >13) The Zombies (I now hardly belief my ignorance years ago, of this band >along with the others I've mentioned) > I played their first album all the time when I was young. It was always a treat when you'd turn up another single... I saw Argent and Colin Blunstone back when... I prefered Colin by a lot. Amazing.. >14) Loud Family/Game Theory > The first good gig I saw in Bozeman after I moved here in '80. Dan Vallor (road manager) had a brother here, so they played a radio benifit. Amazing. There was even talk of the tape of that gig getting a proper release. I always bug Scott about it when I see him... the last time was in the audience at the Fillmore to see the Soft Boys. I asked him if he ever expected to be there hearing that. When they came here the first time they figured we didn't know any music, so they kept yapping about the Soft Boys and Big Star... They were sort of surprised when I explained that I'd been clued in longer than they had. I really like the Alternate Learning (pre GT) EP he did... there is a killer song on that. >15) Left Banke (Loved the single but didn't know the rest) > Man, I just found a copy of that cd yesterday at the thrift for $1.50!!! I had one, so this one is gonna pay for my Brummels box set. >16) Bergan White >17) The Sneetches > Alec would be pleased. I think I rather hear this than most of the stuff he does now. The Magic Christians was a major dissapointment. Hope Cyril doesn't screw the pooch and kill this band before they make a good record. >18) DM3 >19) Chris Von Sneidern > Another Chappie who has played here a few times, usually with JW Harding...good guys. >20) Richard Davies > >Best, Steve "I'd love to hear yours" D. > > > > I don't know if I could make a list, but I do investigate names tossed around here when I go up to do my radio show... keep takin' the tablets. rs > > >
