I would strongly recommend "Diary of a Rock and Roll Star" by Ian Hunter....the best book about rock I have ever read....a great primer on what it takes to make it in the music biz...it's hard work! It's a first person account of a Mott the Hoople tour just as Mott was becoming known in the USA. Have them read that, then listen to the "All the Young Dudes" and "Mott" albums.... It is my hope that the class will help the students understand the recording industry and the recent changes in it as well as introduce students to a lot of great music that flies under their radar. I am thinking of using selections from Slichter's So You Wanna be a Rock and Roll Star and was wondering what else people would recommend. I also have misplaced the title of the Big Star book, can someone remind me? Please feel free to email me off list. Thanks much! -Art Dr. Art Jipson Associate Professor Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work University of Dayton 410 St. Joseph's Hall 300 College Park, Dayton, OH 45469-1442 937-229-2153 (O) 937-229-3900 (F) Arthur.Jipson@notes.udayton.edu (E) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
