Don't know if you go back a few more years with My Father's Place. But. The Ramones opened for LI's own Good Rats a few times there. First couple times, some of the crowd threw stuff at them. Thinking about some of the bands/acts that played MFP. Soft Boys, Teardrop Explodes, Police, Squeeze multiple times, Gang Of Four, P-Furs, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, XTC, U2, Split Enz, The Buzzcocks, Magazine, Bill Nelson solo/just post Red Noise, The Jam were scheduled back in '78 but for some reason that fell through. That's just the short list. All the CBs/Max's acts played there either during MKC's(waning)/CBGB's halcyon days or just slightly thereafter. Place wasn't just about the new wave/cutting edge stuff either, Rory Gallagher played there damn near yearly, Roy Buchanan, Horslips, Flo and Eddie, Ronnie Montrose, etc. Short list there as well. Tommy Bolin was my first show there, my senior year in high school, I was 17 and thought I was such a big shot getting in SO underage. Jeez ...we all thought we'd died and gone to heaven. All these excellent acts playing right in our backyard. And. The joint itself was so condusive to good vibe flow. We'd still go into the city to see em all too but just havng that place out here on the island was such a great thing. They tore the place down and put up a Bally's or something where it once stood under the Roslyn viaduct. I loved that place. There's a web site as it's been under discussion of late to maybe resurrect ...ah, it could never be like it was but who knows. http://www.myfathersplace.com/ Mark < To: garymaher@juno.com Cc: audities@smoe.org Subject: Re: Remember The Johnsons I don't know about the bass or guitar, but I'm pretty sure the drummer was Dana Penny. He had played previously with a very cool Long Island surf/punk band called The Immortal Primitives, who I saw open for the Ramones at My Father's Place in Roslyn, NY. Be seeing you, Bill>> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
