The Babys opening for Rush in 1978. Pat Travers was on the bill too. 
The Babys SMOKED the other acts.

About 4 months before I saw Piper open for Kiss. Hard to compete with 
Kiss.

In early 1984 I saw the Spongetones open for the Kinks.

But the BEST was Sweet opening for Alice Cooper also in 78. Both acts 
were monsterous!

Oh, and Let's Active's first ever gig opening for REM at 688 in 
Atlanta in 1981. What a great weekend that was for rock in Atlanta. 
King Crimson, REM, Devo and Grace Jones all got my hard earned dollars 
and all gave great shows at 4 different venues.
