I loved Hunter's books and Lord knows, I have no idea what pain he was going through, but at the risk of stating the obvious, I just can't help but feel that there is a lesson here that massive amounts of alcohol and drugs and quick access to stockpile of guns just don't mix.  
Very sad indeed...
