This is my first time participating in SOTT and thanks to one great guy, M. Kropp I was prompted to do so... My humble contribution will carry the title "We've Got a Really Big Shew For You Tonight" and, as you may guess, it bears Beatle influences throughout as well as a lot of established 60's acts (some 70's)... 1) Heat Treatment - Graham Parker & The Rumour / This track blew me away back in the 70's when Graham Parker made his arrival on the music scene for the first time... Pure energy and a great way, imo, to kick off the set 2) There She Goes - Paul Revere & The Raiders / I've always had a soft spot for Paul & the Guys (still waiting for that Raiders tribute anyone?)... This is a short ditty... to the point, jangles and pops all its merry 2 plus min duration... 3) I'll Keep You Satisfied - Sgt. Peppers Band / A little known (?) Brazilian band which released two incredibly awesome Beatles' covers albums... What is unique about this band is that they would cover the "Songs Lennon-McCartney Gave Away" and would sprinkle them with naunces from the better known songs... the band and their arrangements are pure delight 4) Cry For a Shadow - The Ventures / My all-time favorite instrumental band gives this Lennon-Harrison composition a run for its money here 5) Maybelline - Johnny Rivers / Pure rock n' roll magic created live at the Whiskey A Go-Go way back when... 6) Time & Space - The Franternal Order of All / This is in reality Andrew Gold and a few friends as Andrew plays almost all the instruments on this album... The album covers a great amount of 60's styles and on this particular cut he imitates Roger McGuinn and the Byrds to perfection... 7) Yes It Is - Scott McCarl / Mr. Ex-Raspberries probably outdoes The Beatles on this cover 8) Baby Blue - The Anger Bros / A great rendition of a great Badfinger song 9) The One I Wanna Love - The Masticators / Just because... it rocks! 10) Mother Dear - The Vinyl Kings / Dang if this doesn't bring a tear to your eyes... 11) Surfer Dan - The Turles / Surfin' music never sounded better... tongue-in-cheek but can be taken seriously too! 12) You Wouldn't Listen - The Ides of March / The softer 60's side to this band that would "toughen" up their act years later with their top 10 songs "Vehicle"... 13) Storybook - The Blowpops / The band that never really got its due... 14) Tear Off Your Own Head - The Bangles / Great rendition of this Elvis MacManus tunes 15) I'm Looking Through You - Ian & The Zodiacs / Another cute Beatle cover tune by this lesser known band 16) Wonderful - Box O' Clox / Maybe this rendition will motivate some to go out and purchase the full CD... 17) Atomic Fireball - The Idle Jets / It simply rocks! You'll see... 18) It Wasnt' Just Me - The Mockers/ Another "just because" 19) I Wanna Be a Beatle - The Unbeatables / Way back 60's tune from the "Live @ Palasades Park" album... Hard to find and quite a novelty tune... btw one of The Unbeatables later joined the Young Rascals (Gene Cornish) 20) Break It All - Los Shakers / A great Argentinian band... this was recorded back in the 60's and it still rocks to this day... get past the bands vocal accents and you'll hear a great rocker indeed 21) When Is Your Dream? - The Raspberries / Well, sorta the Raspberries... pulled from a "reunion" EP recorded a few years ago (Minus Eric Carmen) ... Dreamy tune... 22) Lonesome Train - Robert Gordon / Elvis wanna-be... but somehow he seems to make it work 23) Saturday Morning Cartoon - The Rubinoos / Just great fun! 24) Send me The Heart - Denny Laine & Paul McCartney / A good 'ol country colaboratin between two ex-Wings 25) Kissimee Kid - Richard Betts / This ex-Allman Bros lead guitarist's tune and (especially the fiddle) will get anyone's toes tappin' I'll wager 26) I Want To Hold Your Hand - John McVey / Betcha never heard it like this! 27) She's Such a Beauty - Emmitt Rhodes / Why not? Hope those of you getting this one will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together! Cheers, Miguel
