There's a lot of stuff I haven't heard this year that I know I'd like, but as is the case every year, so many releases--too little time and money to hear it all....hopefully these all count per the rules: 1. Dungen - Ta Det Lugnt -late in the year arrival that blew off me head! 2. Brian Wilson - Smile - worth the wait 3. Green Day - American Idiot - quality tunes and arrangements 4. Tears For Fears - Everybody Loves A Happy Ending - maybe their best ever 5. Elliott Smith - From A Basement On A Hill - sorry it's his last 6. Pillbugs - Happy Birthday - a little long, but very consistent 7. Mew - Frengers - import only- think My Bloody Valentine/Sigur Ros/Cocteau Twins - quite original sounding though 8. Chris O'Neill - s/t - Macca drenched, but very, very good 9. Muse - Absolution - Queen and Radiohead wrestle in an alley with Led Zep 10.Cloud Eleven - Terrestial Ballet - Rick's b-sides? jeez... 11.Bronco Bullfrog - Oak Apple Day - why can't these guys get a UK deal? 12.Cliff Hillis - Better Living Through Compression - solid gold hooks... 13.Keane - Hopes and Fears - nice to hear piano at the fore, lovely 14.Earlimart - Treble and Tremble - fine tribute to Elliott--almost too close 15.Ambulance Ltd. - s/t - super tuneful indie stuff this Other things I enjoyed: Secret Machines, Gripweeds, Gurus....oh there's many more I can't think of: Waiting for: Sugarplastic, Eugene Edwards (I must be the only person here who hasn't heard this yet) Reissue of the year: The Village Green Preservation Society - the Kinks! Happy New Year everyone!....I think and hope this year will see a new Chewy Marble cd released...:) If I would only finish the darn thing... Brian
