<< George Martin stepped back when originally given the opportunity to remix the Beatles catalogue. Mainly because he didn't want to do the work due to his hearing loss, but also because he didn't think it necessary. >> AHH! Yet another Fab myth..... Actually, Sir George supervised the remixes of all the vault material for the Anthology CD's, and went on to conduct numerous other sessions throughout the late Nineties (i.e.: What was that Lennon-McCartney "tribute" album that Jim Carrey sang on?). But it seems his "deafness" only arose when it came to producing those two (actually, three) "new" Beatles tracks. In truth, one of George Harrison's demands in agreeing to the Threetles reunion was that George Martin NOT produce their sessions (hence the job going to Jeff Lynne). And the hearing loss was then cited for the press and fans who, they correctly assumed, would wonder why in heck Jeff, and not George, produced "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love." And Jaimie? I actually read this from the man himself, in a post-"Anthology" interview Mr. Martin conducted with none other than NOW (or possibly it was EYE) Magazine, right there in Toronto!! The dream may indeed be over, but the disinformation continues, Gary "and yeah, the Beatles also had a pact not to ever tour America til they had a Number One record there too ;-)" Pig
